Auger Bore UTX - Sittingbourne
Peter McCormack & Sons auger boring team completed an undertrack crossing (UTX) of the Sittingbourne to Sheerness railway line in summer 2020 utilising our American Augers 48/54-900 AB machine to install 41m of 762mm (30”) steel casing designed to house a 630mm diameter PE water main.
To facilitate the auger bore works Peter McCormack & Sons constructed both the entry and exit shafts. The auger boring element of the works was completed whilst working under the constraints of a Network Rail track possession window which had a time limited deadline for handing back the railway line to resume normal operation. The site teams worked diligently in continuous alternating 12hr shift patterns over a weekend to ensure the works were delivered safely and well ahead of schedule.
This 41m auger boring section was one part of a full turnkey package offered by Peter McCormack & Sons on this project which perfectly showcases the versatility of the company and the wide-ranging services provided as follows:
- 1646m of open cut excavation
- 638m of horizontal directional drilling
- 41m of auger boring
- Reinstatement
- Electrofusion welding
- Automatic butt fusion
- Installation of pipework and fittings
- MH construction
- Testing & commissioning
- Main connections
